Whenever I use press ons I always have glue on my cuticles. It makes my nails look really messy. Even if I use minimal glue around the cuticle. Any tips on this? Should I be putting the glue on my natural nails or on the press ons?

2022.01.26 18:19 magahein If you could travel back in time to advise GameFreak on Gen1, what would you change?

Assume that you have the opportunity to travel back in time and act as an adviser to the developers of the very first Pokemon games, Red and Green (and eventually Blue and Yellow, I am considering all four of these to be in the same category). What if anything would you change? Gen1 was great as the start of a terrific franchise, but it is absolutely not perfect, with a few small issues and a few very substantial problems. So I have gathered my thoughts on what I feel like would be good improvements to Gen1. I've put the smaller and probably less controversial changes at the start and I'll end with the larger and probably more controversial changes.
Change 0: Fix the bugs/glitches
I am not really considering this to be a true "change" so much as just adding more quality control. The game breaking bugs should absolutely take priority, while less severe bugs can be mostly ignored until later in development. But a bug that should take high priority despite not really damaging the game is the bug that makes the Psychic type immune to the Ghost type. While not leading to game crashes, it still affects gameplay in that this bug was one of the contributing factors to Psychic types being so strong in Gen1, so this should be a high priority fix.
Change 1: Implement a few additions from future generations
My goal here is not to make a modern game in the 8-bit style. But there are certain additions and changes from future generations that should be possible on the GameBoy (or so I think, I certainly could be wrong here). The first of these should be the Special stat split (introduced in Gen2). It makes no sense to me that GameFreak were cognizant enough to split the physical stats into Attack and Defense, but not to split the Special stat in the same way. And it should be very possible, considering that, again, they already did the same thing with Attack and Defense.
My second suggestion may not be possible, but I would like to see the physical/special attack split for damaging moves as well. This was formally introduced in Gen4, but a precursor is the "contact" system, which works similarly to the physical/special classification and has existed from the very beginning. If it is possible, this would help a lot of types in general and certain Pokemon specifically. But since I suspect that I'm asking for too much, I'm going to move forward with the assumption that an attack's classification as "physical/special" will continue to depend entirely on its typing (e.g., all Grass type moves are special moves).
Change 2: Improve movepools
Several types have very weak movepools, like Bug, Ghost, Fighting, Dragon, Poison, and Rock. Bug (only three damaging moves, strongest were rare or exclusive), Ghost (only two damaging moves, strongest does fixed typeless damage), Rock (only two moves total, Rock Slide is decent but has no additional effects in Gen1) and especially Dragon (only ONE move total, Dragon Rage does weak typeless damage) have it the worst, but all of these types should have more offensive move variety. At minimum, Shadow Ball, Signal Beam, Power Gem, and Dragon Breath (or moves like them) should have been in Gen1. Poison has Sludge as its strongest offensive option, which is fairly weak and available on only two lines, so a stronger version of Poison Sting (a decently accessible move) should be added. Fighting has powerful attacks that are either recoil moves like Submission or are limited to Hitmonlee, so Cross Chop and Brick Break are good additions. Adding these additional offensive options will make several underwhelming types actually decent to use. I didn't consider any status moves in this, but a few of those will also help tremendously with type balance.
Beyond just typing, several specific Pokemon also have poor movepools. To give only two examples, Scyther and Pinsir are the strongest Bug types in Gen1, but neither learns any offensive Bug moves. These specific examples can be remedied by adding more damaging Bug moves, but this is a problem that has plagued several Pokemon all throughout the history of the franchise, so this isn't just a problem caused by Gen1's poor move diversity. The Pokemon themselves need to see adjustments to their movepools.
My final point in this section is that several moves are the wrong type. Karate Chop and Gust were both Normal type moves, and from Gen2 onwards, Karate Chop was changed to Fighting and Gust to Flying. They really should have been those types from the beginning, but I also argue that Mega Punch, Mega Kick, and Razor Wind should have the same changes. I don't understand Japanese, so maybe there is some context that I am missing, but as far as I can tell, Mega Punch/Kick is just a punch/kick, and Razor Wind draws inspiration from a yokai that is a weasel that "rides on a gust of wind." I don't understand why they are still Normal type moves, even now.
Change 3: Brock should not be the first gym leader
I believe that the changes I suggest above should be fairly uncontroversial. This is where I may see some disagreement. I do not believe that a Rock type specialist should be the first gym leader. Rock is a terrible type to fight first. It is weak to two of the starter types (Grass and Water) while resistant to Fire, so that puts anyone who picks Fire at a big disadvantage. In addition, Rock is also super effective or resistant against common early types like Bug, Flying, Poison, and Normal. For Brock specifically, both of his Pokemon are also Ground type, which means that for players of Pokemon Yellow, your starter is almost completely useless (Pikachu knows only Normal and Electric moves, so all it can do in this fight is use status moves or the resisted, non-STAB Quick Attack). In addition, Geodude and especially Onix have too much defense (100 and 160 respectively), while Onix is also fast (70, which is faster than all starters other than Pikachu). The two saving graces are that neither Geodude nor Onix know any Rock moves (which is another problem itself) and that both have garbage Special stats, so even the resisted Charmander can still do decent damage (while Squirtle and Bulbasaur make them melt). But I maintain that Rock in general and Brock specifically are not good for the first gym.
My solution here is to switch Brock with Bruno. Bruno has his own issues: he's a Fighting specialist who opts against using Poliwrath and Primeape and instead uses two Onix for no real reason. Taking him out of the Elite Four ironically gives him a better chance to show off his specialty. Fighting is a much better type for the first gym, as it is neutral against the four starters, super effective against only Normal types, but also resisted by Flying, Bug, and Poison, all of which are common in the early game. Beedrill and Butterfree in particular are great Pokemon to use against an early Fighting gym, especially since these early Bug evolutions will eventually become less useful as the rest of your team catches up. Bruno can use Mankey and Machop. These two both have the same BST that is similar to Geodude's, so as far as raw stats are concerned, the battle should be of comparable difficulty. Mankey is fast but frail, so Karate Chop is probably not a good idea, lest I give Mankey the potential to sweep your whole team - Low Kick and Scratch are better moves. Machop is strong and defensive, so Pound, Low Kick, and Counter would work, with the TM for Counter being what Bruno gives upon his defeat. Bide is basically a worse Counter anyway, so I think this is a fair change.
This leaves a spot on the Elite Four open, and Brock would be great for that position. His team could include five out of these six: Onix, Golem, Omastar, Kabutops, Aerodactyl, and Rhydon. I would drop either Onix (since it's a bit too weak for the Elite Four) or Aerodactyl (since Lance is already using one). I like all of the fossils being used by Brock, but it's hard to replace Aerodactyl on Lance's team, so I would say keep Brock's Onix - but only if Onix gets a buff to its Attack stat. If its Attack were at least 70, I think Onix would be decent enough to keep on Brock's Elite Four team.
Change 4: Address the problems with Agatha and Lance
Agatha and Lance have the same problems: there is only one evolutionary line of their type specialties, and both types have poor movepools. I've already addressed the movepools above, but the only way to address the "only one evo line" problem is to add more Pokemon to the Gen1 dex. I think that Misdreavus and Kingdra should have been Gen1 Pokemon. Misdreavus is a bit weak (only a little stronger than Haunter), but as a pure Ghost type, it circumvents the problem of the Gastly line being Poison types, which makes them weak to Psychic. Kingdra might be too strong (decent BST, but very good defensive typing), but this can also be addressed as above, by adding more offensive Dragon type moves. Additionally, Marowak could be a Ground/Ghost type, to match with the themes of Cubone mourning its dead mother, and maybe Aerodactyl and Gyarados could get trade evolutions that give them the Dragon type? A Dragon type Gyarados might be too strong, even with more Dragon moves, since it would likely have the same powerful typing as Kingdra but with much better stats.
Even if the only thing that changes is that Lance switches one of his Dragonair with Kingdra, he is still close enough to a Dragon type specialist that he could stay in the Elite Four (he's also too strong to be a gym leader anyway, so may as well keep him here). But Agatha might be better as a gym leader, similarly to how Bruno is better as a Fighting specialist by taking him out of the Elite Four. If I were to make this change, I would swap Agatha with Sabrina. Agatha could do something similar to what Sabrina does in Pokemon Yellow (she uses the whole Abra line, with everyone at level 50). Agatha could do the same with Gastly, or she could swap out the Gastly with Misdreavus and finish with Haunter and Gengar. Either way, Sabrina would be a frightening Elite Four member. She could use Alakazam, Hypno, Starmie, Exeggutor, and Mr. Mime. I'm not too worried about the Starmie being Misty's ace, as Sabrina is now in the Elite Four and is no longer a gym leader herself, so I don't see an issue with the overlap. If taking out both Bruno and Agatha is too much, Agatha can stay in the Elite Four with Golbat and Arbok being replaced with Misdreavus and Marowak (even if Marowak doesn't get the Ghost type, it still should be on Agatha's team anyway, as it fits with the Ghost theme much better than a bat and a snake do).
Final thoughts:
I've been thinking about this for a while, with the impetus being my frustrations at the decision to make the first gym leader of multiple generations be a Rock type specialist. As I thought more about Brock being a bad choice, I began to realize that there were a lot of other issues with Gen1. Mikey has made videos of a similar vein criticizing certain other generations, so I thought this subreddit would be a good place to share my thoughts. Let me know if you agree/disagree. Did I change too much? Would you change something else? Would you change nothing at all?

2022.01.26 18:19 Andre3000RPI Why disck tanked today. More stupidity

The T ceo confirmed in a new cnbc interview he prefers the company to spin off rather than split so the market tanked. HELLO IT IS MERGING WITH DISCK HOW CAN IT SPLIT WHEN IT IS MERGING WITH ANOTHER PUBLIC COMPANY THAT WILL HAVE 29% OF THE NEW ENTITY. Lol wallstreet is stupid man. t even makes more money in a spin off so Idno why it went down too.
It blows my mind how this company is tied to t when they are fundamentally different. Just shows analysts don’t read the details. Lol but don’t worry I do working on part 2 of the new s4 tonight.

2022.01.26 18:19 cantthinkof111111111 Better to buy I-bonds now, or after projected rate hike?

I have some savings (not emergency fund) that I'm going to be looking to put into I-bonds. I am not great with finance (hence my draw to the Boglehead philosophy). As much as I've read about I-bonds, I'm still not sure how the coming rate increases will affect when to buy.
My understanding is the 2 rates (fixed and inflation) that drive the interest on the bonds will add up to the composite rate. This seems to me (albeit maybe incorrectly) that it'd be in my best interest to buy when the Fed rate goes up (therefore the Fixed rate would be higher). Am I understanding this properly, or am I well off-base?
